Short Programs on Hold PDF Print E-mail

SDRNews7 and SDRNews-HL Production Halted

I need to put a production hold on the new short form programs that were introduced in December of 2008.

They do not seem to be gaining traction from a subscriber standpoint that I need to balance the increased cost and effort of production. And that additional strain on resources could put the main SDRNews program in the lurch.

This "production redirect"  will enable efforts in two new directions: building up the long form CMSWeekly show and creating a Special Events Feed to allow RSS subscription of the videos, audio, and specialized content that comes out of event coverage for trade shows and seminars.

In more normal times, (pre Reset-Recession) I would have continued to invest time and resources in the hopes that the word would spread through the regular SDRNews program and through listener recommendations. Given the current situation, I have to pull the plug and go to more productive tasks.

Like in most things, you gotta hit your numbers. And this time I didn't.

Thanks to the listeners who sampled the new programs. The framework is still there to turn the channels on again, but to do so will require some major ideas on how to get them to grow quickly and add to the business overall.

Thanks for listening and giving the short programs a shot . And, thanks for helping SDRNews to grow
. Tell your friends  ;)

CES Videos are Being Processed

Thanks to Todd Cochrane and Jeffrey Powers, the videos from CES are getting processed. I've been swamped with changes to to CMSExpo video formats, and so the heavy lifting has been done by others.

You will see some new tabs on the site - I've just added the Podtrac player to the SDRNews7 and SDRNews-HL mix to make it easier to find and listen in.

People Between Jobs

I can almost with certainty predict that there are a number of SDRNews listeners who are, at this very moment, between jobs. An even higher probability exists that if you are still employed, you know of someone who is between jobs.

The first episode of the SDRNewsroom event People Between Jobs is scheduled for Wednesday January 21, at 1:00PM Eastern - 10:00AM Pacific. The purpose of the gathering is  to showcase listeners who are between jobs and open the floor to other listeners for questions, coaching, and comments.

It’s an out growth of work that I have been doing on a community service basis for the past seven years, adapted to virtual space.

In literally thousands of real life interviews and group interaction there are surprisingly, a few key questions that can lead to some real insights into finding a new job, and personal growth during the time that you are between jobs.

Here are some of the questions that we will be asking:

  • What you have done  in your Job Search over the past week?
  • What you have done for Other People while you are between jobs ?
  • What you have done for yourself over the past week ?

Pretty soft stuff ? You will be surprised how the group process can take those three discussion topics and drill into the basis for effective job search, accountability, and growth.

Join us at SDRNews.com - I will have an embedded uStream video for the SDRNewsroom, a GoToMeeting Session for the VoIP and Net Resource, and Skype for Video.

If you have advance materials, a resume or up to three Powerpoint slides, please send them to pbj {at} SDRNews.com

Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart

That's the lament that's captured on some of the signage that used to be for sale in Pennsylvania Dutch tourist traps. And it seems to have some technology application as well as the past few days have proven.

Thanks to Open Source Support Desk for the prompt restoration of the SDRNews site. I will say when (not if) you find yourself in the situation, this is a good team to have on your side.
